The Maltese Penguin

 Summary:

A noire story with Frobisher, the shapeshifting penguin companion of the Sixth Doctor

Ugh:

While there isn't that much actually icky stuff (besides the living puddle of blood) Dogbolter is a very icky character.

Review:

An enjoyable story from Rob Shearman, one of the best writers for Big Finish which barely features the Doctor in it - with Colin voicing Frobisher in the form of the Doctor for most of it.  The Maltese Penguin is one of the most delightful stories from Big Finish.  Mind you, it doesn't have the standard Shearman twist (see Punchline or The Chimes of Midnight), however, that isn't a flaw.  Overall a very fun story i'd recommend for anyone starting out with Big Finish or Doctor Who for that matter. Only real flaw is the moment of lorebabble at the end, however, that is a rather small flaw in an otherwise perfect story

Punchline

Summary:

In the middle of Suburbton, UK there's an ordinary family.  Dominic, the go-getter husband and main character. June, his wife and soulmate; they've been together, well, forever.  And Kevin, his rascally son; who constantly makes get rich quick schemes.  The most danger they're ever in is of his boss, Sir firing him.  No, there's nothing out of the ordinary among the gin and tonic around here.
Is there?
(this is actually the first appearance of a male Ash)

Ugh:

There's a scene where Kevin turns into an alien monster. Bloody teenagers amirite?

Review:

You know a story is good when it comes from the guy who wrote The Chimes of Midnight (Rob Shearman (who wrote it under a pen name) ) and while this is somewhat similar it features Sylvester McCoy, who's perfect for the role of a sitcom husband, and instead of picking apart murder mysteries, it picks apart the British Sitcom genre.
This is the only one of the BBV audios I've listened to so far and I feel like this is probably the best introduction one can have to Rob Shearman and/or the BBV Time Travellers series

Beltempest

Summary:

You want me to summarize it?

Ugh:

Some of the deaths (which are undone by nanotech) are pretty gross.

Review:

I really feel sorry for the sods at drwhoguide.com who wrote a synopsis for Beltempest.  Heck, even the person who wrote the publisher's summary.  Beltempest has got to be one of the strangest novels I've ever read.
And it's a good one.
I honestly want to see more from Mortimore, i feel like a script from the person who wrote The Natural History of Fear and Beltempest would be considered one of the best stories of the current era.
Anyway, this is literary tour-de-force, one of the best of the EDAs and only rivaled by Sky Pirates! and/or Dying in the Sun.
I can't really describe it because i don't want to spoil it so buy it

Meglos

Summary:

The Doctor gets a doppelganger and um.. uh...

Review:

Meglos is one of those stories I can't be bothered to remember, the other one being The Creature from the Pit.  Even with my amnesia of the episode I generally feel as though it's an ok episode. It's not exactly horrible, Tom Baker is pretty good as Meglos and the effects for the cactus are believable, and Zolfa-Thura is a pretty cool location.  But i barely remember anything from both me watching it and me reading the novelization.
Still though, at least the... Gaztaks are pretty good?

Arc of Infinity

Synopsis:
The return of Omega and Tegan, and another re-write for Gallifrey
Ugh:
The entire episode

Review:
Omega's return!  And boy has my opinion changed on this one.  There are two plot threads (both Gallifrey and Amsterdam) and I'm not quite sure how they're supposed to be connected.  However, at least both of them are interesting... ish.  Honestly, I think I would be more appreciative if this had only one plot thread. 6/10

Fight Club

Synopsis:
Well, i guess it's somewhat like Fight Club?
Ugh:
It's a comedic episode, but i guess maybe Mulder getting dragged into the sewer is somewhat gross

Review:
It's bad, very bad.
But it's so bad it's good!!
It's the Room of The X-Files; with twins who cause mayhem when combined, another banger soundtrack, and Bob Danofus (who we deserve more of), honestly, all this needs is Tommy Wiseau and it would be legendary.
Even if it wasn't meant to be a comedy, it most definitely is, and it is one of the more comedic failures at comedy, and it's a sight to behold.
Not exactly recommended for people who like serious X-Files, but people who liked Je Souhaite and the Room would definitely like this one.
5/10 and 5/10

Aubrey

Synopsis:
A murderer comes back from the dead in the form of his granddaughter
Ugh:
B.J's victims (including herself) having either "sister" or "brother" carved into them

Review:
One of the more slasher-like X-Files, coming before Irresistible; it definitely has competition, but it is somewhat equal to Irresistible.
Featuring a serial killer from the 1940s comes back as his grand-daughter (even though he is still alive), his granddaughter, Detective B.J. Morrow, seeks out to finish his crimes, starting with a victim he only raped and ending with him.
The episode starts with B.J. unearthing the bones of the FBI Agents killed by Harry Cokely, with Mulder and Scully trying to figure out what happened to them, with B.J. having visions/nightmares of the original 1942 murders (including of the Special FBI Agents assigned to his murders, Sam Chaney and Tim Ledbetter), and then waking up to find the word sister carved into her chest, Harry's calling card
The action builds up to the climax, where B.J. breaks into each of their houses, failing with Linda Thibedeaux; with Mulder and Scully finding out that B.J.'s grandfather was Harry, and that her grandmother was Linda, with B.J. breaking into Harry's house, killing him, and then trying to kill Mulder, thinking that he is one of the agents, with Scully and Lieutenant Tillman, her father, stopping her.
Definitely recommended to introduce people to the X-Files, and one of the best episodes of Season 2
